We explored bending the elbows and modifying the updog to a #cobrapose. The shoulders are training themselves to stay down, the heart comes forward and the lower spine and pubic bones are grounded such that the whole spine bends, rather than the chain-reaction of events which include: hyperextending at the bottom of the neck, pinching the sacrum, closing off the chest and tightening the shoulders and upper back. #healthybackbending. #afterpic
My fab client @ykokamoto was complaining about shoulder pain and suspected it might be from how she was practicing #upwarddog. I took a look, and said, “yep, very well could be that,” since the heads of the arm bones and collar bones are rolling forward and closing off her access to expanding her sternum and front ribs. #beforepic
